We survived our 1st week!

Yep, yesterday was officially a week that we have had the 3 babies home & we have somehow managed to survive. I'm not going to say it was easy b/c if anything, it was one of the most challenging things I have ever done! I had my share of crying sessions & yes, it did make me feel better. Thanks to everyone that suggested that I let it out. It definitely helped to get things off of my chest & talk to Todd about how scared I am/was of being left alone w/ the kids & not being able to handle it.

Ok, let me explain that a bit. I'm not scared of the babies. I know I could feed them & take care of them but I hate when they cry. It tears me apart when they start & I can't do anything to help them b/c I am pumping or feeding 2 of the other babies. It is enough to make anyone go insane! So, the situation isn't where I can't take care of themm, it is more that I hate when they cry. I know I need to get use to it though. I just won't be able to satisfy each & every one of them every time. That is why we are hell bent on following the Babywise method. Our babies have to learn how to sooth themselves, especially if my hands are full. It is sad in a way b/c I do want to sooth them & comfort them but if I do that every time, wow...the consequences later on would be an issue for all of us to contend with. Thanks but no thanks!

Let's get to the fun part! We took our 1st real bath on Sunday & it went fairly well. They all cried a bit as they 1st got wet but after that, no problems! They really liked it when we poured the warm water on them. Of course, they all slept very well afterwards. We were trying to do bathing at 8pm but by the time the 8pm feeding is done, we are exhausted & ready for bed ourselves.

Oh, I also wanted to share a picture of me pushing the triple decker stroller. Yeah, can you see how small our babies are? You can't even see Sofi & Gabi in their seats. Todd was trying to get a picture of us & all you can see is Ian in the front & Mommy in the back :)

I also had to share this picture of Gabi screaming & Sofi covering her ears as if to say, "Enough already!"

I hope you enjoy!

Just wanted to give you some encouragement. You are an awesome mom and you will be able to do it. I remember the first time I was alone with all three and just sat there on the couch crying away because I thought I'd never get the hang of it. It gets better...I promise.

I also follow Babywise and love it. Mine started sleeping through the night around 4 1/2 - 5 months. Right now (6months old) they sleep from 7pm-6-7am.

I only breastfed/pumped for 2 1/2-3 months. Mine never really got the hang of it and pumping was too much for me. I felt bad at first but I knew I would be a much better mom if I stopped.

Hang in there.

Love the pics - hang in there it gets better as they grow and get more used to the routine. My trio is six months and while those first three months are kinda blurry, these last 3 have been more fun and more joy that I ever expected !

You are doing a great job !!!!

You are doing great!! It is exhausting & the hardest thing you'll ever do - BUT you will have 3x the xooxox & it DOES get a little smoother - not necessarily easier (that's when they move off to college, right??)but it does go more smoothly as they get a little older ..I am a Mom to 11 month old spontaneous triplets & a 3 year old! Best of luck to you. You CAN do it! You already are!

Don't know if this will help or not, but my kiddos screamed during bath time when I did it in the little baby tub. I ended up using one of those yellow bear shaped bath sponges in the tub and they were much much happier. I think it is because you can get the bathroom warm and they are laying on a warm wet sponge. I didn't like the baby tub because they were all scrunched up and it was hard to get them clean while keeping them warm. Hope this helps, you are doing an awesome job with them, I am amazed that you are able to care for them all at such a young age. My kids are 5,3 and 1 and there are days I get overwhelmed!!

You are coping very well and someday you will look back and miss this. but only for a moment. :) I noticed in the last pic that your girls arms are free and aren't swaddled. We made the mistake of not swaddling the first week but quickly learned that they sleep SOO much longer when they are tightly wrapped. Just my 2 cents

I would be very careful with babywise. Don't withhold feedings because they aren't on schedule like they tell you to.

It's been linked to failure to thrive and can be harmful parenting. http://www.ezzo.info/Aney/aneyaap.htm

http://fm2.forministry.com/Article.asp?Record=3369 this has pfds and all

so please be careful. I know from reading your blog I doubt you have any intention of doing most of the stuff they talk about, but I have to point out babywise can be harmful especially when feedings are not given whenever baby is hungry.

Babywise is great and I am sure will help a lot. My SIL used it and suggested it to me when I had mine. My son was sleeping 10pm-7am by 2 months.

I LOVE the signs on their carseats.

We used a combination of Babywise and Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child (great book, but hard to sift through the information when you are sleep deprived and have no time). Ours were sleeping 12 hours/night by 3 1/2 months (2 1/2 adjusted). It's hard to listen to them cry, but they will cry less in the long run.

I have two older children that I did not schedule and with my first daughter I didn't get a full night sleep until she was two years old! Crazy. My little trio go down easy and wake up happy! Starting early makes a big difference!

These first few months are so hard - my babies' schedules were all over the map until about 8 weeks (3 weeks adjusted) and then they started gradually sleeping longer and longer. The best thing that we did (that we started around 6 1/2 weeks) was putting the babies to bed earlier. They were going down at 10 pm and waking up at 1 am. When we put them down at 7:30 pm the first time they slept through until 1 am! Sounds too good to be true, but it worked for us.

Good luck with everything! Try to take the time to enjoy the little guys and take pictures and video (we took lots of pictures but didn't even think to videotape them until they were 6 weeks old - our lives were just focused on sleep).

For now, to survive, consider sleeping in shifts. For my husband and I, he slept 8 pm - 2 am and I slept 2 am - 8 am. Look at your schedules and see what works for you!

I've seen you on Triplet Connection (I don't take the time to write much, so I'm sure you haven't seen me), but did want to say Congratulations and good luck! You're doing an awesome job!

Congratulations on your trio! It's so wonderful your in-laws live close to help out. My and my husband's family live far away, so our church helped out tremendously when we had our GBB triplets.

You don't know how lucky you are to have a stroller that fits their car seats! 6 years ago they didn't have those, the Peg Perego was just coming out with one after we had got ours.

I noticed you have signs on your stroller. I was wondering what they said. We did this too. When we went to the mall I put signs that said, "Please don't touch us, we can get sick very easily." People still went to touch, but when I stopped them and said this it seemed like they understood and didn't take offense.
